Install the toolchain
Lux ships as a small set of native binaries built from the workspace. There is no package manager to configure and nothing to download at runtime.
Build the binaries
# From the joulesperbit workspace — builds the `lux` binary:
cargo build --release -p lux-cli
# The canonical formatter is a separate binary:
cargo build --release -p lux-fmt
Put them on your PATH
export PATH="$PWD/target/release:$PATH"
Verify
lux version
# → Lux v0.1.0
Optional: editor support
Build the language server for diagnostics, completion, hover docs, and go-to-definition in your editor:
cargo build --release -p lux-lsp
Point your editor’s Lux extension at the lux-lsp binary and reload.
What you get
| Binary | Role |
|---|---|
lux | run · new · check · build · test · dev · repl · lift · audit · serve |
lux-fmt | the canonical formatter — format in place, --check, --stdin, recursive |
lux-lsp | language server for editor integration |
Formatting is deliberately not a
lux fmtsubcommand —lux-fmtis its own binary with one canonical style and no configuration.
Next: build a reactive app, or skip straight to the playground — it needs no install at all.
